The faculty of the Department of Chemistry and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln are known nationally and internationally for the quality of their research programs, fostering extensive faculty-student interactions, and their commitment to student success. Our excellence in teaching has not gone unnoticed. On three occasions in the past eight years, a member of our faculty has received the Associated Students award for best overall instructor on campus. Other recent teaching awards have included the Distinguished Teacher Award (Nebraska Teaching Improvement Council), the Outstanding Teaching and Instructional Creativity Award (University of Nebraska), election to the academy of Distinguished Teachers (UNL), and the College of Arts & Sciences Distinguished Teaching Award.

Our faculty have an excellent track record in terms of funding and publications. Some of the awards recently bestowed upon our faculty include Presidential Young Investigator, Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar, Alfred Sloan Fellowship, American Cancer Society Junior Faculty Research Award, American Association for Clinical Chemistry-Young Investigator, the Korean Prize, John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship, and Fellow of the American Physical Society.
